Take two teams intent on attack, two porous defences and you have the ingredients for an exciting cup tie - and that is exactly what Haringey Borough and Lowestoft served up on Saturday, writes Terry Lynes.
From the opening minute until added time when The Trawlerboys levelled the scores there was non stop action.
Lowestoft had already had a goal disallowed for offside before taking a seventh minute lead.
Sam Johnson split the home defence and Joe Duffy turned Scott Mitchell before shooting past Mitchell Acquah.
Lowestoft continued to find gaps in the home defence and Flynn Clarke blazed over from 12 yards.
In Haringey’s first attack a clearance was headed straight back down the middle and Joe Waight ran through to shoot past Luke Holt.
Lowestoft should have regained the lead minutes later as Johnson was brought down in the area but the usually reliable Harvey Sayer saw his spot kick saved by Acquah.
Lowestoft continued to find holes in the home defence and it took an excellent tackle to stop Kyle Haylock in the act of shooting after a strong run through the middle.
Haylock then saw his shot come out off the upright with the keeper beaten.
Lowestoft suffered a blow five minutes before the break as Clarke landed awkwardly after an aerial challenge and following a long delay he was carried off on a stretcher and later taken to hospital.
Lowestoft started the second half strongly and regained the lead in the 51st minute.
Some excellent one touch passing by Johnson and Duffy created the space for Haylock to side step Nicolaou and shoot home from 10 yards.
Lowestoft’s frailty from set pieces raised its head again as Manny Yeboah’s diagonal free kick bobbled around in the six yard box before being poked into the net by Waight to level the scores again in the 65th minute.
Haringey then had a spell on top and the ever youthful Derek Asamoah’s flick sent Waight racing clear of The Trawlerboys defence to complete his hat trick and put the Boro ahead for the first time.
Lowestoft did not lessen their efforts and Charlie Norman’s excellent cross was headed home by Duffy but was again ruled out for offside.
Lowestoft finally level the scores in the first of five added minutes when Sayer atoned for his penalty failure by sending a typical 25 yard free kick hurtling into the top corner of the net.
