Lowestoft back in league action at home to Bishop's Stortford

After a busy spell of games in national cup competitions, The Trawlerboys return to Southern League Premier Central Division action tonight (kick off 7.45pm).

Lowestoft host 12th placed Bishop's Stortford at the Foster's Solicitors Community Stadium three weeks after were last in action in the league.

Since then Lowestoft have had three games in the Emirates FA Cup, and a last gasp 2-3 defeat against Royston at home in the FA Trophy third qualifying round.

It has seen The Trawlerboys just miss out on a place in the first round proper of the FA Cup after a fine performance against higher National League opponents in front of 1,166 fans last Saturday.

Jamie Godbold's men took the lead in the eight minute as Kyle Haylock converting Harvey Sayer's inswinging free kick.

Lowestoft continued to create the best openings despite seeing goalkeeper Luke Holt stretchered off in the 23rd minute, with 16-year-old debutant Jack Trowbridge his replacement.

The visitors hit back after the interval, and gained momentum with a controversial 49th minute equaliser as Trowbridge was seemingly fouled but play was allowed to continue and Weston-super-Mare made it 1-1.

The visitors went on to win 1-3 - but despite being beaten, The Blues were unbowed as they left the field to a standing ovation after a superb display against the Vanarama National League South side.

Victory secured Weston-super-Mare an away tie at League One side Bristol Rovers in the first round proper.

Last time out in the league on Tuesday, September 24, Lowestoft narrowly lost 2-3 at Spalding United - despite a first Lowestoft goal for Gabe Overton and another for midfielder Flynn Clarke, who has since suffered an awful season-ending injury.

The Trawlerboys are now 19th in the league, but with games in hand Lowestoft will be looking to bounce back as the focus of attentions returns to the league campaign.

Bishop's Stortford have had differing fortunes in the national cup competitions over the past two Saturday's - winning on penalties away at Flackwell Heath in the FA Trophy third qualifying round after a 1 - 1 draw.

But they also just missed out on a place in the Emirates FA Cup first round proper on Saturday after narrowly losing 0-1 at Braintree Town.

Last time out in the league - also three weeks ago today - Bishop's Stortford lost 1-2 at home to 21st placed Biggleswade Town.
