New signings set to bolster The Blues ahead of Redditch United opener

"Our home form is crucial - we need as many people at the ground cheering us on, and getting behind the lads for what is set to be an exciting season ahead!"
- Blues boss Jamie Godbold

Lowestoft Town FC return to Step 3 football this weekend with two games in the opening three days.

The Trawlerboys will start the new Pitching In Southern League Premier Central division season with five games in 16 days in the opening month.

And Blues boss Jamie Godbold is set to bolster his squad with some "additional signings" ahead an opening day home clash at the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium tomorrow.

Lowestoft host a Redditch United outfit on Saturday (August 10, 3pm KO) who made the play-offs last term.

The Worcestershire-based Reds are managed by former Blackburn, Leicester and England goalkeeper Tim Flowers.

This is quickly followed by a Monday night league fixture - with a visit to St Ives Town on August 12 (7.45pm KO) - ahead of a first weekend away day at Barwell FC next Saturday, August 17.

Reflecting on pre-season and all the hard work behind the scenes to prepare for a return to Step 3 football, Godbold revealed that - at the time of going to press - Lowestoft were "very close and hopeful" that they would be able to announce some "additional signings" ahead of the opening game of the season.

This week, Godbold revealed that with the work going on to bolster the squad with "additional signings", there was an air of positivity approaching the opening day.

Godbold said: "It has certainly been the most challenging pre-season I have had in management with so many changes, players moving on, and offers going in.

"The level we are at, where we are situated it all plays a factor.

"It has just been a challenge, no doubt about it.

"What we do know is we are excited about what is ahead.

"The focus now is on Redditch and St Ives in the week ahead.

"We will go into a tough opening day game with a Redditch side who made the play offs last season, who have added new players and have new management.

"We have been unbeaten throughout pre-season and we will be going into the week ahead buoyant.

"We know the teams at this leave will have good quality all over the pitch, and certainly from our last time playing at Step 3 we know we have to make our home pitch at Crown Meadow - the Fosters Solicitors Community Stadium - a cauldron.

"Certainly it will be every team's furthest journey and with the support we have, and I hope the extra support behind us, that is really important.

"When we reflect and look back at our last time playing at this level three years ago our away form was tough and not where it could have been.

"That is why our home form again is crucial - we need as many people at the ground cheering us on, and getting behind the lads for what is set to be an exciting season ahead - our first time at Step 3 in a few years.

"When looking back to last season and those tight games we had where last minute winners were scored - that is all through the fantastic support we have pushing us over the finishing line....we need that again now.

"This league will be a lot tougher this year and we can now focus our attentions on the challenges ahead.

"Certainly the games are coming thick and fast to start this month off and the key message is it will be great to see you at Crown Meadow getting behind us.

"We want to make our home ground a fortress and make it a difficult place to come to."
