Lowestoft set for AFC Telford United test

Lowestoft Town suffered late heartbreak as a last gasp goal confirmed their relegation from the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Division.

The Trawlerboys penultimate home league game against Bedford Town last Saturday started well as Andy Reynolds' men raced into a 2-0 interval lead following goals from Joao Rangel and Harvey Sayer's penalty.

But the Eagles hit back after the interval to maintain their lead at the top of the table following three goals in the final 23 minutes - which ended with Lobjoit's 96th minute winner.

This sixth successive defeat for Lowestoft saw them remain in 20th place in the table, but it left them 10 points adrift of safety with three games to follow in the next eight days.

This starts with a trip to Shropshire on Good Friday (today) as Lowestoft head to third placed AFC Telford United (3pm kick off).

Lowestoft's final home league game of the season follows on Easter Monday, April 21 (3pm kick off) as an all-Suffolk derby will see Leiston hit town.

The campaign concludes on Saturday, April 26 away at 13th placed Alvechurch.

In a statement on the club's website, Lowestoft's board of directors this week thanked the club's fans for their "continued support" after a "tough and disappointing return to Step 3 for the first team."

It said: "The Board, staff and players all share the disappointment of relegation and the results throughout the year, and we don’t shy away from it falling below what we had hoped we could achieve when arriving in the division.

"As a Board, we have already set in motion plans to be able to prepare for future seasons with the lessons and knowledge gained from the one gone by.

"Success on the pitch can never be guaranteed, but our commitment to offering all of our teams the best experience and opportunities to be successful is at the forefront of what we aim to achieve."
